allow me to nerd out for a sec

Hey Reader,

I'm sitting in my eerily quiet house, writing to you.

Both of my kids are at school, my husband took both dogs out of town, and the cat is in hiding. I've worked from home for over 10 years & it's been months since I've been so alone. It's kinda creepy honestly.

Thanks for letting me be in your inbox, btw. I love writing to you and hope over time, I can really get to know you and your business journey better.

And speaking of journey…I want to share some of the reasons that I've grown to love working in this industry during my own business journey.

First and foremost, I love working with people like you, Reader - entrepreneurs who are changing their futures with their hard work. I know how risky AND rewarding starting a business can be (been there done that).

And I love helping small business owners see the fruits of their labor in black & white reports and spreadsheets. It's so easy to feel successful OR like you're riding the struggle bus... but the numbers in your business show the truth. Good data leads to good decisions.

Of course, I got into all this as a flexible way to support my family. And while I thought I would always end up working as a CPA in a fast-paced office… my health & my family's came first. Virtual bookkeeping has been an amazing compromise between my family's needs and my desire to continue using my brain in motherhood.

Okay, your turn! What do you love the most about entrepreneurship? And if you’re feeling extra chatty (that’s OK with me!), I’d love to hear how you stumbled upon it in the first place.

Hey Reader, In the US, we're less than 6 weeks out from the personal tax filing deadline of April 15. Sole proprietorships & C-corp filings are also due then. S-corps & partnerships have even less time (March 17). That means it's probably too late to save much for 2024 tax payments... so let's do better for the 2025 tax year by making a plan today! PREPARE FOR 2025 BUSINESS TAXES From your bookkeeping software (you ARE doing bookkeeping, right??), create a spreadsheet that shows income &...

Hey Reader, It's been a long week over here! My younger daughter tested positive for influenza A on Sunday, so we've spent every day since trying to keep the medically complex kid healthy (so far so good! Fingers crossed!). On top of that, I've been slammed with issuing 1099s for my bookkeeping clients & hunting down missing W9s. Side note: if you're a small business owner working with contractors or service providers, ask for a W9 before you issue the first payment. Their wanting to get paid...

Hey Reader, Now that you've had a chance to breathe in the new year... are you ready to think about making 2025 a better money year? I know there are a lot of factors out of our control that make a "great money year" seem unlikely, so I'm just asking you to do your best. I'm very much not a New Year's Resolution person anymore. I used to be, but never living up to my resolutions got discouraging. Now, I find a word to focus on for my personal & business lives and try to incorporate it into...
