two truths and a lie

Hey Reader,

You know I'm a virtual bookkeeper, right?

Well, when I onboard new bookkeeping clients, they're either really confident about their books & looking for extra support or time-savings, or they're convinced they've messed everything up & they're desperate for help.

Usually, the "mess" isn't really that bad and I can fix things up easily... but it's normal to feel anxious or hesitant about seeking help with bookkeeping.

Business owners...

  • fear handing over any amount of financial control
  • struggle to trust
  • are anxious about revealing their money struggles
  • don't want to be judged for mishandling their bookkeeping
  • worry about the cost of bookkeeping help

^^ ALL of this is why I offer free consultations to new clients & do my best not to judge their situation and always reassure them during those calls.

Working with someone else's money requires a deep level of trust... even though my clients barely know me initially. I tell them about the complexities of my family life and have insurance just in case, but it's asking a lot of a stranger. I get it.

It takes time to get to know someone, to trust them.

To help you get to know me better too, let's play 2 truths & a lie!

  1. I grew up on a ranch in northern Montana. For years, one of my jobs was to help with the birthing of the sheep & dairy goats.
  2. I chose to major in accounting because I'm great (and fast!) at mental math
  3. Self-employment has saved my sanity (and helped our family finances) during my 9 years as a mom - that's one of the reasons I encourage others to take the leap & start their own business too!

So, which one is a lie? Hit reply and let me know what you think: 1, 2, or 3?

AND! Everyone who guesses correctly gets a little prize! If you feel up to it, tell me your own 2 truths & a lie, and I'll reply with my best guess.

Before you go, let's be friends! Find me on Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest (all @ balancedfi)

Enjoy,

P.S. Let's get to know each other! Hit reply to let me know which "fact" you think is untrue + tell me your own 3 things!

Hey Reader, In the US, we're less than 6 weeks out from the personal tax filing deadline of April 15. Sole proprietorships & C-corp filings are also due then. S-corps & partnerships have even less time (March 17). That means it's probably too late to save much for 2024 tax payments... so let's do better for the 2025 tax year by making a plan today! PREPARE FOR 2025 BUSINESS TAXES From your bookkeeping software (you ARE doing bookkeeping, right??), create a spreadsheet that shows income &...

Hey Reader, It's been a long week over here! My younger daughter tested positive for influenza A on Sunday, so we've spent every day since trying to keep the medically complex kid healthy (so far so good! Fingers crossed!). On top of that, I've been slammed with issuing 1099s for my bookkeeping clients & hunting down missing W9s. Side note: if you're a small business owner working with contractors or service providers, ask for a W9 before you issue the first payment. Their wanting to get paid...

Hey Reader, Now that you've had a chance to breathe in the new year... are you ready to think about making 2025 a better money year? I know there are a lot of factors out of our control that make a "great money year" seem unlikely, so I'm just asking you to do your best. I'm very much not a New Year's Resolution person anymore. I used to be, but never living up to my resolutions got discouraging. Now, I find a word to focus on for my personal & business lives and try to incorporate it into...
